Description of Duties:

The office of Global Outreach and Extended Education is seeking a Manager of Distance Learning Programs to join its team. This position will lead the development and management of distance learning initiatives and program support for our Engineering education portfolio which reaches a global audience of constituents.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Broadcasting, Computer Science, Engineering or related field and five years of complex broadcast or distance learning facilities design, installation and operation, which includes three years of supervisory experience; OR,Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated knowledge of: broadcasting, telecommunications and information technology rules, regulations and guidelines; instructional design; management principles, practices and techniques; web-based and broadcast production techniques. Experience in: using a variety of industry-leading technologies and products; using course management systems; project management; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

Under general direction, the Manager of Distance Learning Programs, performs work of considerable difficulty in planning, coordinating, and directing instructional development and technical systems administration of web-based training and education programs. Leads instructional design pedagogy and development approaches for engineering education offered through distance learning. Is responsible for developing and administering a standardized online course on management and IT structure design; develops and integrates various information technology solutions to streamline production of distance learning courses and supporting IT systems; manages and schedules the design and production of distance learning courses; recommends effective and creative uses of technology to create new learning environments, enhance current instruction and increase course enrollment; plans and coordinates course delivery of distance education through faculty and industry collaboration; implement and administer various multimedia architecture and technologies such as database management systems, Web page development tools, desktop publishing tools, broadcast media tools and presentation tools to develop custom products to meet user's needs. As a supervisor, the Manager of Distance Learning Programs, is responsible for recruiting, employment, training and evaluation of technical instructional development staff and technical student workers in accordance with University policies and procedures. This position will provide leadership to instructional design teams ensuring effective translation of instructional design plans into instructional materials; advise and confer with various university departments, external corporate, government and educational partners on distance learning technologies; consult with faculty teaching distance education courses on the selection of appropriate media and delivery systems, including the use of synchronous and asynchronous delivery systems; prepare and
