TG Awards More Than $7 Million in Grants to Improve Educational Attainment
TG
Round Rock, TX - TG is pleased to announce $7,348,156 million in competitive
grants has been awarded in 2013 to 33 institutions and nonprofit
organizations to advance postsecondary access and completion, and help
support educational research.
"The quality of life in Texas is largely dependent on the educational
attainment of its residents," said Sue McMillin, TG president and CEO. "We
firmly believe that the 2013 cohort of TG grantees will help us contribute
to the knowledge and evidence of practices and policies that lead to
increased educational attainment, which in turn will help Texas meet its
postsecondary enrollment and completion goals."
TG's grant funding is particularly targeted to help, either directly or
indirectly, students from low- to moderate-income families. Priority also
was given to proposals that address the needs of first-generation college
students, and/or students who are underrepresented in higher education.
"This is particularly critical for the State of Texas, as a growing number
of our students are from low-income families or are the first-generation in
their family to go to college," said Jacob Fraire, TG's vice president for
student and institutional success. "We believe that assisting our state's
youth in understanding the value of and how to obtain a postsecondary
education is the best way to ensure a bright future for Texas."
